Jio Boom: Soon to Bring Laptops in Smartphone Price, Price Upto Rs 15000

Jio is looking to expand its PC lineup in the budget segment, with a new report claiming that the company is planning to launch the Cloud Laptop in the market for Rs 15,000.

What is the Jio boom?

Telecom giant Reliance Jio is working hard to launch phones and laptops in the budget segment. The company launched its second laptop, the JioBook (2023) earlier this year in July at Rs. 16,499 was introduced. It looks like Jio is now looking to expand its PC lineup, claims a new report.

That the company is about Rs. 15,000 is planning to launch the Cloud Laptop in the market. The Cloud Laptop, which will work with Jio Cloud to reduce the high costs associated with shipping laptops, will be launched in India in the coming months.

Which company will join Jio?

According to a report in the Economic Times, the Mukesh Ambani US-owned telecom company is in talks with top manufacturers like HP, Acer and Lenovo to launch laptops in the country in a few months.

Quoting a senior Jio official, the ET report claims that the laptop will be a “dumb terminal” with all its processing and storage functions on the Jio cloud infrastructure, reducing the need for expensive hardware. However, keep in mind that a cloud-based computer will always need an Internet connection to access storage, processing, and other functions from the cloud.

The price of a laptop depends on its hardware like memory, processing power, chipset etc. Large capacity of this hardware increases cost as well as battery power. A Jio official has said that what we are doing is that we are doing away with all this and the entire processing of the laptop will be done in the backend in the Jio cloud. The report also said that

That Jio plans to bundle the laptop with a monthly cloud subscription similar to Apple’s iCloud or Google One subscriptions. However, the pricing for the cloud subscription will be decided later.

How will Jio Laptop work?

The report says that the proposed Cloud Laptop is being tested on HP Chromebooks. Additionally, Cloud PC software can also be accessed on existing devices such as desktops or smart TVs, without purchasing a cloud-based device.

In July, the company launched the JioBook (2023), the successor to the first JioBook introduced last year. The latest JioBook is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT8788 processor and runs on the Android-based JioOS operating system.
